Gábor is listening to... 2018/9
How about a trip on the popculture rollercoaster? Let me offer you a ride.
1. Our first stop is English electronic music duo Simian Mobile Disco, who are about to release their sixth album Murmurations in May.
2. Being caught in the electronic music duo wave, next up are Lexy & K-Paul from Germany whose forthcoming album Peilschnarten is out in April. The video for the title-track has an interesting twist with a serious message.
3. The Presets are - guess what - an electronic music duo. They are from Australia where they have won several awards for their second album Apocalypso. They haven't released any LPs since Pacifica in 2012, however, new material seems to be on the way.
4. The previous three songs have been like a 2018 mix of the 90s meeting the 2000s, and it's not going to be any more contemporary - on the contrary, American DJ Andy Butler and his project Hercules & Love Affair take us back to the 1980s. My Curse and Cure - taken from the project's fourth album Omnion (2017) - is totally New Orderish.
5. I really feel like switching to some deep house here.
6. As for contemporary pop music, Janelle Monáe is everything and nothing at the same time - just like her appearance on Fun.'s number one hit We Are Young. But ups and downs, ins and outs - tops and bottoms - are not about taking sides; it's about being wherever you want, doing whatever you want. One cannot misinterpret the message in her new video to Make Me Feel and probably her forthcoming third album Dirty Computer (April 2018) will be similarly entertaining.
7. The current male equivalent to Janelle Monáe is Australian singer/songwriter Troye Sivan because he is everything at once. He is George Michael and Madonna at the same time. He is both Vogue and Freedom. Oh my, my, my...
8. If you are Toni Braxton, however, you don't need to be anyone else.
Toni's eighth studio album Sex & Cigarettes is released on 23 March 2018.
9. From Divas to Divos, this is the latest Muse. They will probably release a new album this year. Or not.
10. The same applies to recently-discovered American rock band The Night Game. Introduced by Norwegian DJ Kygo, the group is heading for a trance-less direction with Bad Girls Don't Cry and probably for a debut album.
