Records of the year so far

By this time tomorrow six months of 2017 will be over thus we are about to officially pass the half-way mark of the year. It all started with the over-the-top comeback of Ed Sheeran, but let's summarize who else joined the Sheeranian race of remarkable album releases?

English indie-pop band The XX released their third studio album I See You on 17th January, 2017.

It has reached the number one spot in Germany, Australia, Belgium, The Netherlands, Portugal and in the UK.

Ed Sheeran released Divide on 1st March, 2017. It has been the singer/songwriter's third studio album with which he reached number one all over the world, excluding Greece, Japan and Mexico.

Depeche Mode released their fourteenth studio album Spirit on 17th March, 2017. It reached number one in at least ten European countries, including Hungary, Germany, Austria or Poland.

Take That released Wonderland on 24th March, which did not become a number one album because Ed Sheeran had blocked the charts.

Goldfrapp released seventh album Silver Eye, Jamiroquai released eighth album Automaton and Nelly Furtado released sixth album The Ride on 31st March, 2017. Jamiroquai's became number one in Italy while Nelly Furtado's did not even chart in the UK.

The Chainsmokers released debut album Memories... Do Not Open on 7th April, 2017 and reached number one in the United States as well as in Canada.

German trance producer ATB released tenth album Next on 21st April, 2017. It peaked at number 14 in Germany.

Also on 21st April, 2017 Maximo Park, Incubus, Sheryl Crow, Steps and Texas released new albums.

Austrian electro swing producer Parov Stelar had his brand new album out on 21st April as well, entitled The Burning Spider. It became number one in his home country.

Gorillaz released fifth studio album Humanz on 28th April, 2017. It became number one in Austria, Belgium and Switzerland and number two in the USA as well as in the UK - the latter was once again because of Ed Sheeran.

Kasabian's sixth studio album For Crying Out Loud could beat Ed Sheeran's Divide so it became number one in the UK on its release week of 5th May, 2017.

Blondie released eleventh studio album Pollinator on 5th May as well, reaching number one on the UK Independent Albums chart.

Erasure released seventeenth studio album World Be Gone on 19th and 20th May, reaching number six in the UK.

Linkin Park and Papa Roach released new albums as well on 19th May, 2017.

One More Light reached number one in Canada, USA, Czech Republic and Hungary.

Crooked Teeth became number one on the US Top Hard Rock Albums chart.

London Grammar released second studio album Truth is a Beautiful Thing on 9th June, 2017. It became their first UK number one.

Royal Blood and Lorde released new albums on 16th June, 2017 with the former reaching number one in the UK, the latter reaching number one in Australia.

How Did We Get So Dark?

Imagine Dragons released third studio album Evolve on 23rd June, 2017. As of today, it has reached number 3 in Germany but there is no data available yet from other countries, for example from the USA or from the UK.

Today, June 30th, 2017. Calvin Harris and TLC have released new material the chart-positions of which will only be know next week.
