Gábor is listening to... 2017/03

Well, now that Ed Sheeran is possessing both number one and number two of several charts worldwide, including the UK and Australia, it was about time for me to listen to his new songs. It's not that I did not want to do it before but I have been quite satisfied with his old works and I was afraid the new songs would ruin the moment.

Also I was interested in London Grammar's new material so now Ed and the British trio have to share one blog entry.

To begin with, there was no sign of London Grammar until recently a new song has appeared on the Euro200 chart. Rooting For You resembles a comeback after a three-year-or-so hiatus.

The track gives 100 percent goosebumps, however, the revival was a bit overshadowed by Ed Sheeran's return.

Chronologically it happened on the very first day of January 2017. that Ed Sheeran announced his comeback. Then he named two titles Shape of You and Castle on the Hill, both of which were released consequently and at the same time so now Ed is all over the place with not one but two songs.

Shape of You is rather clubbish and has some simple beats and background noises similar to those of Sia, however, the fact that it is Ed singing plus the genuity of the lyrics make this song more than just a dairy product pop tune therefore we can easily fall in love with it.

Nevertheless, if you ask me, I prefer Castle on the Hill to Shape of You. Even though it is lacking the dominating guitar like the one in A-Team or in Bloodstream, it is still filled with more - or rather different - emotions as the previous track. One can put it that way: Shape of You is the sex and Castle on the Hill is the morning after.

As for the moment, public opinion is slightly different because Shape of You - in spite of not having Sean Paul rapping in it - became the number one and Castle on the Hill reached number two.

In addition let's not forget that Ed's new album will be out in March.
