Twenty Years of Summer (1996-2016)

2000

This year was full of summer jams and freestylers, supergirls and thongs, rock deejays and real slim shadys, marias and... marias... but let's get this huge amount of songs in order - somehow.

What I remember I really liked are Rome Wasn't Built In A Day by Morcheeba, Babylon by David Gray, Black Coffee by All Saints, Summer Moved On by A-Ha, Reamonn's Supergirl, Artful Dodger's Movin' Too Fast, Liquido's Play Some Rock and One To Make Her Happy by Marque.

Popular songs included Britney's Oops... I Did It Again, Eminem's The Real Slim Shady, Let's Get Loud by Jennifer Lopez, Jumpin' Jumpin' by Destiny's Child, Doesn't Really Matter by Janet Jackson, Shackles by Mary Mary, If I Told You That by George Michael & Whitney Houston, He Wasn't Man Enough by Toni Braxton, Maria Maria by Santana, Californication by Red Hot Chili Peppers and Thong Song by Sisqo.

Club hits included The Summer by ATB, On Tjhe Beach by York, Another Way by Gigi D'Agostino, Don't Be Afraid by DJ Tonka, Time To Burn by Storm, We Are Alive by Paul Van Dyk, The Bomb by Love Connection, Sunshine Reggae 2000 by Laid Back Vs. Funkstar Deluxe and Cada Vez by Negrocan.

American country band Lonestar scored a Top 40 hit in the UK with Amazed.

Coldplay had their first UK Top 10 hit with Yellow.

Limp Bizkit contributed to the soundtrack of Mission Impossible 2 with Take A Look Around.

Moby reached the UK Top 10 with Porcelain.

Finnish group Bomfunk MC's reached number 2 in the UK with Freestyler.

There are, however, 15 more summer anthems to come...
