This summer is remarkable for me, as well, because I spent nearly two months in hospital from March to May. On one hand I badly wanted to get out, on the other hand once I got out I was eager to take whatever hits that summer could offer.
I clearly remember listening to The Corrs' What Can I Do and Ace of Base's Life Is A Flower on radio while being on the ward. Later the 1998 Football World Cup took place and offered us hits like Dario G's Carnaval De Paris or Ricky Martin's La Copa De La Vida. Also, Dana International won the Eurovision for Israel with Diva.
There were plenty of club songs that summer including Storm, Paffendorf, Dial M For Moguai, Dr Motte & Westbam's Loveparade 1998 and Energy 52's Café Del Mar reached the Top 20 in the UK.
Girl groups ruled the UK: B*Witched with their debut C'est La Vie and Spice Girls' break-up song Viva Forever.
The USA was ruled by females, too: Destiny's Child had their debut with No, No, No and Brandy & Monica quarreled about a boy in The Boy Is Mine. Also singer Mya was featured on Pras Michel's Ghetto Superstar.
Other hits included Intergalactic by the Beastie Boys, Up & Down by the Vengaboys, Rendez-Vous by Culture Beat, Truly, Madly, Deeply by Savage Garden, Needin' U by David Morales, Mas Que Nada by Echobeatz, Me Gusta La Vida by Bellini, Stay by 2-4 Family, Looking For Love by Karen Ramirez, Teardrops by Lovestation and How Much Is The Fish by Scooter.
But there are still ten more hits to come:
Loona: Bailando (originally by Paradiso from 1997)
Los Umbrellos: No Tengo Dinero
The Tamperer feat. Maya: Feel It
Ace Of Base: Cruel Summer (originally by Bananarama from 1983)
Des'ree: Life
Eagle-Eye Cherry: Save Tonight
Mousse T. feat. Hot'N'Juicy: Horny 1998
Sash! feat. Tina Cousins: Mysterious Times
Fatboy Slim: The Rockafeller Skank
Stardust: Music Sounds Better With You
